The Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition 2021 is a prestigious event held at the Mall Galleries in London
I am delighted to announce I will exhibit at The Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition 2021.
The RBA look for skill, draftsmanship, originality and creativity as key elements for work to be selected. It is therefore a great honour to be asked to exhibit having demonstrated these aspects in my work ‘Solent Sparkle’.
About the work: Solent Sparkle
Southsea seafront is a well-known and popular place for people to enjoy the seaside in south Hampshire. The seaside landscape is ever changing but I particularly enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and afternoon light.

In this painting I have captured the late afternoon sun as it reflects across the Solent. From the viewpoint of Southsea seafront, the silhouette and intricate structure of the pier has been captured. People can be seen enjoying the view and leaning over the curved metal railing to look at the water below.
The sunlight has broken through an open section of the supporting beams. It has caught the movement of the waves as they gently fall on the sand and shingle beach. The strip of orange on the horizon with the softer sky has reappeared as shards of light on the water.

About the RBA
The RBA was originally formed in 1823. However, it became the ‘Royal’ society in 1887 when James McNeill Whistler took leadership. Monet and Alfred Stevens were among its honorary members. Today, the society has just over one hundred of the UK’s top painters, sculptors and printmakers as members.
The RBA has used the Mall Galleries for its annual exhibition for many years. The Mall Galleries were opened by HM The Queen fifty year’s ago, so are they are currently celebrating their birthday. Nine art societies that make up the Federation of British artists (FBA) use the gallery to promote the work. These organisations today have of five hundred artist members.
