Paula Mitchell is an award winning artist based in Hampshire

Paula Mitchell is a multi award winning artist and painter

Paula Mitchell ARSMA is an award winning painter and British artist from Hampshire.

Her work begins outside, painting in front of the subject. Seeing a scene first hand and being immersed in the environment

” 2026 has brought about some really exciting moments for me as an artist. Every weather condition brings with it glorious subjects to paint. The temperatures this year have also enhanced my painting experiences.

I meet so many great people when I am out painting, from every age range and walks of life. Without exception, everyone I meet is positive in some way or another.

I was recently taking part in a Royal Society of Marine Artists painting event as I was elected an Associate Member in October last year. As part of a video interview I was doing for the RSMA, I was asked what impact I thought I had on the general public as an artist.

My answer was that in some way, my joy of ‘seeing’ things I wish to paint, seems to drift into the minds of those passing by. Something they may not of noticed, they notice, because I and my easel are pointing directly at it.

I never mind people stopping to speak to me, so if you see me, stop and say hello”

British Summertime

Hampshire Hills is part of the British Summertime series by artist Paula Mitchell

British Summertime is something that we all treasure. In a year when we have had record levels of rain and a later spring, the warmth of those summer months are much anticipated.

As an artist, I paint out in all months of the year and in every type of weather condition. ‘There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong sort of clothes’ I have heard mentioned many a time. British summertime is however a thing of total beauty.

Being able to gain inspiration from painting in the outdoor environment as a plein air artist with the sun on your back is a wonderful thing. Having the physical freedom of working without thermals and not having the distraction of freezing cold fingers helps me work.

My newly released painting entitled ‘Hampshire Hills’ is a full plein air work. It was completed out in the landscape where there was just me, the view I was capturing and some beautiful bird song as an accompaniment.

This work is now being made available as an original oil painting and limited edition print.
