The recent ROI Friends Event Portsmouth was a great day. A chance to paint out with some friendly faces and meet a few new artists.
Most of the time, I have to travel far and wide to take part in plein air paint out events in the UK and overseas. The ROI Friends Event Portsmouth was the closest event to home I have ever taken part in.
Conditions were pretty changeable on the day with fast moving cloud and pretty flat light. There were glimpses of sunshine which gave some more interesting highlights and shadows on the boats and landscape around Portsmouth Harbour.
I decided to have a go at a boat tied up that was resting on the low tide. I liked the angles of the rope and the colours of the boat itself.
The biggest challenge for me with this plein air work was trying to get some half decent highlights and shadows.
I needed these to help the boat sit in the landscape. I was happy with my effort!
